Poetry, prose and more from teenage years to mature adult that Jan wrote as a release for some of her experiences.
Being born with multiple metaphysical abilities in a time when being different wasn’t acceptable, along with a mother who openly told Jan that she didn’t like her, Jan turned to writing as an outlet when she was a child; as she matured, so did her encounters with personal relationships, metaphysical, spiritual and physical observations and interactions with the world.
A Voice Unheard: Poetry, Prose & More compiled some of these experiences and observations, but with a twist. After each entry, Jan shared a bit about what transpired to prompt her to write. She did this because, through the years of reading poetry, she often wondered what the experience was behind the author’s poem.

This is what AI had to say about my newest book:
“This collection, titled A Voice Unheard, is a diverse anthology of poetry and prose authored by Jan Toomer. A literary memoir, blending creative writing with personal reflections on the author’s spiritual and metaphysical evolution, Jan explores a wide range of human experiences, including the challenges of childhood trauma, the pursuit of nature as a sanctuary, and the complexities of social interactions. Each entry pairs a creative work with a contextual explanation that clarifies the author’s intent and the real-life events that inspired the writing. Ultimately, this serves as a medium for the author to find her inner voice and share her insights on life, death, and the human journey.”
