Cursed Dagger and Dragon

Cursed Dagger and Dragon: Clarima Syd Jones

This is the first book in my new World Paranormal Organization Series.

Cursed Dagger and Dragon and Murder, Oh, My!

The World Paranormal Organization – WPO – was created after the shift of 2012, when paranormal abilities began showing up across the world. The WPO began to test and certify abilities so the public would know if the Energy Reader or Healer was genuine and what the scope of their abilities were.

Clarima “Clari” Syd Jones, a certified Level 4 Energy Reader, hires out her various abilities not only through her private practice, but also with the local police department. Clari was hired to work part-time as a paranormal consultant with her unofficial partner, Detective Henry Morris. Clari is often able to Read the energies connected to a case, person or place and may provide a clue or another perspective to help the case move forward.

The mundane world for Clari collides with paranormal worlds, and brings to light dimensions – and dangers – she hadn’t realized existed.

Clari and Detective Morris become closer after someone almost succeeded in killing Clari. Now, Clari and Detective Morris work together to catch the would-be killer, all while working on other cases, and learning more about other dimensions.

Cursed Dagger and Dragon ends with a cliff hanger and is the first book in the World Paranormal Organization Series.

Clari’s story finishes in Prophecy Revealed, coming soon.

Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of “Cursed Dagger and Dragon” by Jan Toomer

In Cursed Dagger and Dragon by Jan Toomer, an energy shift occurred across the globe on the 21st of December 2012. This energy shift led to an increase in paranormal activities and the establishment of the World Paranormal Organization (WPO) to regulate paranormal activities. Clarima Syd Jones, popularly known as Clari, was a fourth-level energy reader registered with the WPO. She ran her own private business, where she helped families with readings to locate their missing loved ones or to cleanse their houses of disturbing energies. This led her to work with the police force as a reader. She was assigned to work there with Detective Henry Morris, who became inexplicably intertwined in the mind-boggling paranormal activities. When an Arcturian mentor named Aruta — an otherworldly being — warned her of a chaotic energy rising, Clari never imagined how her life and those around her would be deeply affected.

The author presented an exciting plot that had no limited supply of intrigue and excitement. From the beginning of the book to the end was a combination of surprising twists and turns and curious suspense that would keep readers reading till they get to the end. One amazing thing was that the author could connect this book’s different subplots into one recognizable whole. Though there was quite a lot of information, it wasn’t overwhelming because the author’s narration was clear and easy to follow. The book gave off a lot of familiar vibes and called to mind movies like the Ghost Whisperer and Doctor Strange . There was a lot of creativity employed by the author, and I especially loved the subtle way she gave readers a background to the story and the events that led up to the present storyline.

The author created an array of exciting, familiar characters — both human and non-human. From characters depicted from wolves to mentions of elves and vampires, the character list was made with fantasy lovers in mind. The story mainly revolved around Clarima, a strong-willed young woman who would dazzle readers with her kind heart and determination. Clarima’s life alone could become a sole story because it was filled with excitement. However, the author flavored it with other characters that came through with their own likable and distinct roles connected to the book’s central plot.

Although this book was a fantasy, the storyline was believable. Some parts of the plot were phenomena that had been accepted by some people in the real world and even projected by science, like the part that recognized the existence of energy forces around us. Toomer created a multi-dimensional world that housed mythical creatures, bringing much-needed action into the story. Cursed Dagger and Dragon had the structure to make an excellent and exciting screenplay, and the sequel would be much anticipated.

Cursed Dagger and Dragon was a captivating read, and the author succeeded in doing this. There was nothing to dislike in this book; every part of it was enjoyable. I caught myself many times doing a wiggle dance from sheer excitement.

Unfortunately, there were many errors, making me rate it 3 out of 4 stars. (Please note: errors have been corrected.)

I’d recommend this book to lovers of paranormal stories.
