The Sun Can Shine Again

This was inspired by the survivors of abuse, and is featured in I Stayed (April 4, 2021).

The white lace signifies the purity of the relationship at its beginning.

Different layers of varying shades of grey shows the progression of the abuse until the dark black appears.

The white rose (the abused) starts to darken from the exposure to the black (abuser/the abuse).

A thorn had bitten into the abused, drawing blood draining the life force from the abused.

But once the chains are broken (the cycle of abuse is broken), the wounds can begin to heal and The Sun Can Shine Again.

And, the heart begins to heal.

Caution: Contains sharp objects. It is not flat. You accept all responsibility.

My Stroke

As seen in Re-Writing My Future: A Stroke in Time, this is a physical representation of my stroke. The details are also listed on page 192 paperback version (available paperback and Kindle at Amazon).

Strips of jumbled, faded and crinkled papers, some with words and some with music notes chaotically cover the surface with a light sprinkling of dark green all-capped words. These dark green words were the last vestiges of color before everything went black and white. But these green words bespoke encouragement and guidance.

The upper left hand corner has a dark patch. This is the stroke, a void of nothing in the dark. Below it is “CREATIVE” in dark green. The corner is partially hidden with a piece of white lace, making this section a little more difficult to access.

A white feather quill represents the ability to write, but the ink dripping off speaks to the writer’s hesitation.

Two small mirrors are placed. One is atop the white tunnel…reflections of what used to be.

The other is a small mirror located on the upper right and is on the center of a black yarn spiral. The path leading to the spiral haphazardly wends its way through the chaos with some parts disappearing only to show up elsewhere. This spiral represents going within and ends at the small mirror. It’s so small, one can only see a tiny portion of what reflects there.

There are random numbers throughout. Numbers with no connection.

Some passages have been burned and all have been torn. Their full context is not intact so one must try to figure out what they’re trying to impart.

A canvas ribbon of hope is secured near the left bottom with the words “WAY TO GO”.

A wide black ribbon of mourning goes most of the way across the picture, signifying a partial death.

Living in the desert Southwest, I found there was beauty even during the winter months when there’s a lot of shades of brown.
