There’s a long stretch of dirt road that transitions, for me, leaving the city behind and arriving home. I was on that stretch headed home.

I get to see a lot of interesting things on my drive: sometimes an Oryx can be seen; cows crossing; the spastic movements of different types of quail as they try to decide if they should run across the road or not…yes…uh, no…yep…definitely not. Argh.

This time I noticed a pickup truck driving towards me (headed to town). Now, out where I live, we become pretty familiar with the regular’s vehicles. This wasn’t one of them.

This truck was moving slowly and had it’s hazard lights flashing.

I moved further over my side of the road and slowed. “Do they need help?” I asked…well, no one. I was alone in my truck.

As they neared, I saw the driver and one passenger.

Closer still, then I could see in their vehicle. The young driver had a death grip on the steering wheel, his face pale but determined and his back ram rod straight.

I smiled. Then looked at the passenger side. What a contrast! Dad smiled and gave me a relaxed wave which I figured was his way of telling me, “We’re fine. It’s all under control.”

I laughed. Yes, driving lessons can be intimidating, gut clenching and possibly terrifying. Having the responsibility and control of the vehicle, hoping to keep it on the road and not crash into anyone or anything while nervous sweat builds up and your heart races. You’re learning to maintain control of something you, at that moment, don’t feel in control at all.

It’s kind of like what some people are feeling right now…like you’re the one behind the wheel, and possibly not feeling in control at all.

In the meantime, your Higher Self, aka the passenger, is relaxed and saying, “We’re fine. It’s all under control.”

In This Time

In this time of turmoil and uncertainty, we each may sit ram rod, determined and possibly fearful, as we navigate our way. But I’d like to remind you:

– You volunteered to be here on Earth at this time. You are needed here. You have skills, talents and energy that matches none other on our planet. You volunteered to be here to help others on their journey, through your skills, talents, or just by being you – which automatically shares your energy with others.

– Your Higher Self is relaxed and has it under control. Your Higher Self is the aspect of you not bound in Earth energy. It knows what all you wanted to accomplish here. It will help get you there. This is why it’s important for you to trust your Higher Self.

Does this mean by trusting your Higher Self that everything will be smooth sailing; no bumps in the road? Heck, no. You came here to experience the turmoil and duality; to learn to stay centered and not absorb the fear that’s being generated around you and trying to draw you in. And to help others as they struggle with the fear that is around them.

As you drive through your life, remember to check in with your Higher Self now and again. Even though it doesn’t feel like it all the time, your Higher Self is relaxed and waving to let you know, “It’s all under control.”
